Parents Raise Money For Local Stillbirth and Neonatal Charity

West London Sands helps bereaved parents

Parents Kiran and Aman Sandhu, whose first child, baby daughter Aria, was stillborn in February this year, organised a pub quiz on 23rd September at the Coach and Horses in Brentford raising the sum of £1,720 for West London Sands.

The Coach and Horses pub generously donated the services of their quizmaster for this event, and a great time was had by all.
This is the second major find-raising event by Kiran and Aman – the previous weekend they organised a team for Toughmudder which raised £5923 for National Sands. The Justgiving page for this is still open –

Kiran said: “Aman and I wanted to remember our precious daughter Aria in this special way, raising money for a charity that has been very important to us. Family and friends have been brilliant at helping to organise everything, especially my sister Anika. The loss of Aria has been heart-breaking, but West London Sands have supported us both practically and emotionally from the moment we contacted them – we are very grateful and want to enable them to continue helping other parents too…”

Lynn Lacey, Chair of West London Sands, said: “We really appreciate all that Kiran and Aman have done to raise this money for us and for National Sands. Bereaved parents who came along, and also Kiran’s family and friends, had a wonderful afternoon - and a table of West London Sands parents actually won the quiz too, revealing an alarming knowledge of Tom Cruise films! We are working with midwives on a project at Hillingdon Hospital at the moment and some of the money will help fund it.”

West London Sands is a voluntary organisation that offers help to anyone affected by the loss of a baby. They run three support meetings every month for bereaved parents; they also work closely with local hospitals – West Middlesex, (where Aria was born,) Hillingdon, Northwick Park, Queen Charlotte’s, St. Mary’s, and Chelsea and Westminster, to promote better care for parents in the event of stillbirth or neonatal death, through training and through practical improvements to delivery suites and counselling rooms.

National Sands is currently developing the National Bereavement Care Pathway in conjunction with other major charities such as Tommy’s and the Lullaby Trust. They undertake research into the causes of stillbirth and neonatal death and are working to reduce the incidence in the UK.
