Sam Hearn's blog about life as a councillor in Chiswick
Cllr Sam Hearn, who represents the Riverside ward in Chiswick, is chairman of the Chiswick Area Forum. He has written this account of his life as a busy local councillor.
Friday 12th December: Early evening party for Ward Volunteers at the home of Felicity Barwood. As always there was a raffle – but strangely no one had to buy a ticket. Good to see so many new faces.
Saturday 13th December: To the Library for the Councillors’ Surgery. Very few residents attending so I have a chance to catch up with constituents contacting me by email.
Sunday – 14th December: Reverberations from last week’s Audit Committee continue to plop into my email in-tray. An interesting meeting with a South African Lady from Alexandra Township. She is in London this week for her first visit and a chance to catch up with the Chiswick resident who has sponsored her education up to and including a Finance degree at the University of Witwatersrand.
Monday – 15th December : Working with Councillor Paul Lynch on the effectiveness of the Ward leaflet delivery network.
Wednesday –17th December : Rushing around ensuring that leaflets are delivered across the Ward before the General Election expenses deadline.
Thursday – 18th December: Pulling together paperwork for tomorrow’s meetings.
Friday – 19th December: Two meetings with Officers to discuss constituents’ issues and planning for the Area Forum. It has been fun fitting these meetings around attending an ex-colleagues retirement “do” and Christmas Parties.
