Local MP Ruth Cadbury has raised the concerns of Chiswick residents about changes proposed by Royal Mail and has asked people to contact her with their opinions on the matter.

Many local residents and businesses are concerned about the proposal to close the sorting and delivery office in Heathfield Terrace and to move it into the Acton office in Bollo Lane.

The MP said she had met representatives in Parliament last week and told them of the concerns of local residents and businesses, particularly the added traffic which will cause congestion, delayed deliveries, the inconvenience and difficulty for collecting parcels and signed-for post at the new site, downgraded working conditions and finally, concerns about the future of the building.

She said, "I expressed concern that Royal Mail will be relying on getting a number of vans down Bollo Lane in the morning peak, and that this will delay deliveries."

"Many local residents, particularly older people, are concerned about the difficulty of getting to the Acton office to collect parcels and signed-for post."

Whilst the Royal Mail is offering alternative arrangements like re-sending the item, or making arrangements, I know a lot of people will not be happy with this, she added.

Ms Cadbury says,"If you are concerned about the closure of the sorting and delivery office in Heathfield Terrace, and its relocation to the existing Acton office in Bollo Lane please click here to let me know."

You can read our report about growing concern over the future of Chiswick Post Office, following the Royal Mail announcement that it is planning to move its delivery and enquiry services from Chiswick to a depot in Bollo Lane in Acton.
