Chiswick local Rosie Osborne started writing a book of interviews with leading artists when she was a teenager.

This month the book, 'Free Spirits' will be released just before she turns thirty.

Rosie is the daughter of well known local artist Robert Osborne. She studied at the University of Sussex and lived in Paris for some years. She has held a number of successful solo exhibitions and specialised in photography.

Inspired by her time spent in St Ives, Cornwall as a child, Osborne first began
writing the book aged just thirteen. One of her first interviews was with the abstract artist, the late Sandra Blow, who had a studio in Cornwall.

Over the years since, she has sought out artists from all over the world, from Paris to New York, to Cornwall and west London, to compile a collection of material, now beautifully presented in her first ever book.

‘The more artists that I visited and spoke to as a teenager, the more I felt intrigued to talk to others. When I was 17, I made the promise to myself that I’d release a book, documenting all of the inspiring stories that I had collected, before I turned 30’, says Osborne. ‘I told myself that there was no other option but to do it, whatever it took.’

The next 13 years were filled with encounters with artists in their homes and studios.

‘The funny, tragic, inspiring words and stories that I heard over those years were a compass for where I went next, and the decisions that I made, and the energy of each person that I
interviewed has stayed with me ever since’, says Osborne.

On the 18th October 2019, Free Spirits will be published, the day before her 30th birthday.

‘I hope that the book will pass the artists’ spirit and courage on to others for many years to
come,' she adds.

The book is available online for £30.
