Tributes have been paid following the death last week of Roger Llewellyn, a Chiswick resident and well-known actor. He had a distinguished career on stage in regional theatre and the West End, and the RSC and was a strong supporter of the Tabard Theatre.

Roger Llewellyn was most famous for his role as Sherlock Holmes in 1997, 2007 and 2008 in stage versions of The Hound of the Baskervilles, Sherlock Holmes The Last Act and The Death and Life of Sherlock Holmes.

He won the Shakespeare Prize at RADA, and had a long career in regional theatre, television, the West End, and two seasons with the RSC. His first theatrical encounter with Holmes was in 1999 in a major new adaptation of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'.

Writer David Stuart Davies saw the play and wrote the solo drama: 'Sherlock Holmes…the last act !' for him. It premiered at The Salisbury Playhouse, won 5 stars at Edinburgh and was selected as one of 'The Top Ten Fringe Plays,' touring world-wide for 9 years, in over 450 performances including performances in 2008 and 2009 at the Tabard Theatre in Chiswick.

In 2009 Roger played Sherlock Holmes again in the Big Finish Sherlock Holmes audio series in the stories.

Simon Reilly of the Tabard Theatre paid tribute saying; "So sad to hear that Roger Llewellyn died today. He was a renowned television and stage actor and a huge supporter of the Tabard Theatre. He frequently attended shows over the last 10 years and will be sorely missed.
