A total of 65,000 cyclists took part in the weekend's cycling events, including 16.500 who cycled through Chiswick as part of the 100-mile Ridelondon race to Surrey.

Local photographers in Chiswick were out in force snapping the action on the second day of the Uk's biggest ever mass participation event. James Cracknell, who lives in Chiswick, was the first celebrity over the finish line with a time of just over four hours and 36 minutes.

Rugby World Cup winner Matt Dawson and Olympic champion sprint hurdler Sally Gunnell were among the celebrity riders. The route was similar to the Olympic road race cycling event.

On Sunday evening, the 'elite' 150 male professional cyclists, which included Tour de France green jersey winner Peter Sagan raced around the 140 mile route.

Saturday belonged to ordinary people - families and amateur cyclists, many from Chiswick, rode eight miles through central London. Roads around Westminster and along Whitehall had been closed to traffic and spectators lined the streets to wave on the cyclists, some of whom were in fancy dress gear.

On Saturday Britain's double Olympic gold medallist Laura Trott won the inaugural women's RideLondon grand prix.

London Mayor Boris Johnson, an avid cyclist, who finished the course in over eight hours, despite a puncture, commented; "This is a great day for cycling, and for this city. It was brilliant. I can really see this being like the London Marathon."
