A sudden electrical power cut over lunchtime this Monday (10 September) has affected a large area of Chiswick.

Some premises closed outright as they were unable to trade without electricity as it was impossible to take card payments.

Waitrose shut but Sainsbury's remained open with emergency lighting on.

Cote restaurant had to contact customers with reservations to cancel them. A group of people who had booked lunch for a lunch party after the ArtsEd graduations today were disappointed to be turned away as the kitchen was unable to provide a meal for them.

Some businesses said that they would remain open if people were able to pay by cash.

Lea and Sandeman tweeted: "power cut in #Chiswick. We're still here if you've got old fashioned cash, but cards will have to wait until the Electricity Co give the generator a whack. Hey ho."

The power cut affected the High Road, Devonshire Road, Turnham Green Terrace and some residential streets.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks(SSEN) apologised saying, "We're sorry for the #PowerCut affecting #Chiswick and the surrounding areas. We expect all supplies to be back on by 17:30.@"

Power came back by around 3 pm.

We have asked SSEN what was the reason for the power outage and will report back.
