Future of tower block residential development on former Citroen site
Views of proposed developments from Gunnersbury The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government has called in the application for the Citroen/L&Q site in Capital Interchange Way and indicated that it will be determined on the basis of a Public Inquiry. This application, for 441 residential units ( an increase of fourteen in a revised application) has been called in by the Secretary of State following the Mayor of London’s decision to grant planning permission. In granting permission last August (2018) the Mayor said that the Citroen site was an underused remnent of the type of car-dominant land hungry approach to development that had taken place in the past. "It is precisely the type of site that we need to bring forward in order to create vibrant and active places, ensuring a compact and well functioning city." A planning application for full planning permission for the mixed use
redevelopment of the Citroen Site was refused by Hounslow Council in February
2018. The original plan was for 427 residential units, flexible use units
and a nursery. Affordable housing was to form 40 per cent. The plan was
comprising buildings of 12, 13, 15, 16 and 18 storeys in height, with The revised plan has increased the level of affordable housing by 50 per cent. There is an increase of two storeys on one building to bring it to 17 storeys. The Secretary of State has directed that the application shall be referred to him instead of being dealt with by the Mayor. The Planning Inspectorate are now dealing with the case. In due course, an Inspector will be appointed and an Inquiry will be held. Details of the Inquiry will be published when this has been arranged. The West Chiswick & Gunnersbury Society (WCGS) intends to participate as a "third party".
