Former Treasury official Craig Pickering's novel is set in late 1980s Brussels
Chiswick–based writer and former Treasury official, Dr Craig Pickering (Death and Taxes ) has just published a murder mystery on Amazon as an e-book. ‘A Very European Murder’ is set in Brussels in the late 1980s. It starts with the murder of a British diplomat and develops into a mystery involving Eurocrats, spooks, police and the Mafia. The victim proves to have a complicated private life and also turns out to have been tracking a fraud in the European Budget. The trail leads to Sicily, and then another murder takes place. The plot follows the investigating policeman leading on the case, Commissaire Lucas Dumont, who has a number of suspects and leads. There are two crimes, linked by money laundering and Lucas Dumont finds his previously happy marriage in peril as he moves towards solving them. Craig says it’s based very loosely on a true story he heard while working there in the 1980s. You can buy it here here Dr Pickering's last book ‘Death and Taxes; How The Government Shortened The Lives Of Smokers' is also still available to read. It accused successive Governments of placing a higher emphasis on raising revenue from cigarettes than public health. ‘Death and Taxes’ is available as an e-book on Amazon at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Death-and-Taxes-ebook/dp/B00ASO8G8Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1357301440&sr=1-1 A ‘Death and Taxes’ blog which also looks at the question of e-cigarettes and other smoking-related issues is at http://deathandtaxes.uk.com/
