Cornwall Grove Residents Outraged Over Parking 'Muddle'

Residents had no parking for a week but workmen only came twice

Residents in Cornwall Grove have complained that they were inconvenienced by resurfacing works in their street which meant they had to park their cars elsewhere for a week, while the work appeared to only take one and a half days.

Locals had notices from Hounslow Highways saying that the road would closed a week from 23 - 30th August to allow for re-surfacing.

A local resident told chiswickw4.com; "The workman came and worked on the 23rd and half the day on the 24th and then they didn't come again. But because of the notices which said everyone should park elsewhere, we had to leave our cars in other streets, despite no work taking place in Cornwall Grove."

He said he telephoned Hounslow Council to ask if they could park their cars in their street over the Bank Holiday and was told they could not because there might be work taking place.

"We all moved our cars and there was no work done. They were meant to be finished on Tuesday and they haven't been back and it remains in an unfinished state. We are all moving our cars back because it's the end of the restriction period but in fact the work appears to be incomplete."

He said it was "quite outrageous" to ask people not to have their cars parked in the street for a whole week because of work which was then only carried out for a day and a half and then left incompleted. He also said he had spent half an hour holding on the phone when he tried to contact Hounslow Highways to leave a message about the parking restriction. This was "not good enough" he declared.

We have asked Hounslow Council for comment.

Following publication of this story, a resident has informed us of another situation in Park Drive (W3)for week 22-26 August.

"Hounslow Highways delivered in advance a letter to every house in the street and put up the no parking signs. On 22 August they also put bollards all down the street.  After 2 sunny days and no work being done, a neighbour rang Hounslow who said that the work had been cancelled.  The bollards were removed on Wednesday and the no parking signs were removed on the Thursday.  The next day all the houses in the street received another letter saying that the work was being rescheduled."
