The fund-raising charity event already has applications from over 100 bands
Oxjam Chiswick calls for local musicians to perform at one of 10 Chiswick venues as part of Oxjam, the UK’s biggest music festival. The show on 19th October, has already had applications from over 100 bands and is looking for musical talent from all music genres including jazz, rock n' pop, classical and ska. All musicians that are chosen to take part will be helping Chiswick to raise money for Oxfam’s work fighting poverty around the world.
The show forms part of Oxjam month of music, which runs through the whole of October. Oxjam is a festival with a difference: thousands of fundraising music events are put on by ordinary people – from large-scale festivals to local sponsored busks – making it the biggest line-up of any music festival in the UK. Julian Chattin, who is organising the event, said: “We’re really excited to be playing our part in making Chiswick part of a month-long musical celebration right across the country. If there are any local musicians that would like to take part then please register at oxjamchiswick.co.uk. We are also looking for volunteers to join the organising team, again register on the website. Everyone who takes part can rest assured that as well as having a great time, they’ll be helping to change lives around the world too.” During October, more than 800 venues, 11,000 volunteers, 9,000 bands and musicians and more than 200,000 audience members will enable Oxjam to raise at least £250,000 to help Oxfam fight poverty. More than 600 Oxfam shops across the country sell second-hand music – double the total number of independent record shops in the UK.
