Young Athletes Showcase Talent In Mini Marathon |

Youngsters from across the borough competed with elite runners
Students from across the borough took part in the main London marathon recently as part of the British Athletics’ official 5km road championships for those aged between 11 and 17 years old. The race involved running the last 5km of the main marathon course. Participants finished in The Mall just ahead of the elite marathon runners.This year, 1,056 youngsters took part. Hounslow was represented by 32 young runners who achieved outstanding results. Locally, Aidan Aherne, a pupil at Chiswick School, (u/15 boys) came in 37th place, and his time was 17:31. Basil Rock, in the same age category came in 47th place and his time was 17:49. The top performances of the day were from Jonathan Bartholomew in the Under 17 Boys’ race, who ran an impressive time of 16:58 and finished in 37th place, closely followed by Christopher Garcia who ran the Under 13 Boys’ race in 17:42 finishing 8th. Charlotte Buckley achieved a time of 18:37 in the Under 17 Girls’ race, finishing in 10th position. Huge congratulations go out to all the young runners who took part, all of whom received a marathon medal, goody bag and finishers t-shirt. Jonathan Barbour from Fusion’s Sports Development Team in Hounslow said: “We’d like to pass on a huge thank you to all of the runners who represented the London Borough of Hounslow and their families and friends who supported them both in the run up to the event and on the day.
