A new centre has opened in Chiswick where people can attend courses and workshops on mindfulness as a way of living, to help them cope with the stresses of everyday life.

Father Fabrizio Pesce is the driving force behind St Peter's Centre for Mindfulness and Spirituality at St Peter's Church, Acton Green which has been operating since last May.

"The Centre has something unique which is teaching mindfulness as a way of living more than as a therapy, and learning from the great religious traditions: Christian, Buddhist and Hindu," he says.

He added "We had a great response from the Local Community with people coming from the most different backgrounds, and are very excited about letting more people now about who we are and what we have to offer to the Local Community.

"Anxiety, depression panic attacks, people are suffering these illnesses but where is it coming from? It is coming from the violence inside us or the lack of meaning or inner peace. Mindfulness and Meditation try to connect with our inner life and nurture our inner life."

It involves concentrating on breathing but the awareness, non judgemental nature of mindfulness, staying in the present moment. This is done as a group around a table, which often helps people more than trying to do it alone. They are also offering that teenagers who are suffering stress might benefit.
