Meg Dillon's book on how she sent how news of life in Chiswick abroad
What do you do if your son takes off to cycle round the world for a year? You write a micro blog to him about daily life in Chiswick! That's what local resident Meg Dillon did when Samuel Dillon and his girlfriend Jayne Edwards left in June 2018. While the cyclists took on the challenge of tackling different terrain, Meg was taking on an equally challenging task-for her- her fear of social media. However, she managed to take to Instagram to write a micro-blog on a daily basis to keep the two cyclists up to date with her daily life in west London. Her book, using her Instagram tag @L7_Meg, 'Two Cyclists, One Mother and The World', is a print version of the 371 blogs which humorously record the highs and lows of "a baby boomer facing the 21st century challenges of social media, agile working, exercise, and relationships in a world facing imense political and cultural change." In some cases, Meg had to use You Tube videos and google explanations to figure things out but she persevered. The book chronicles her daily life, fitness regime, choir rehearsals, working in central London, the weather, and the excitement of a trip to Sydney in October 2018 to see her son. Christmas, catching up with family, cycle trips, and of course, the inevitable weather (usually rain). Meg says "I was being a bit tongue in cheek with the whole project really and turning the social media thing on its head. Normally you would expect the people doing the travelling to do the blog but in fact it was the person who stayed at home." January 10, 2020
