No change for the Ealing Borough ward in the north of Chiswick The three sitting Councillors for Southfield ward which covers the part of Chiswick in Ealing Borough have been re-elected. Gary Busuttil, Andrew Steed and Gary Malcolm had been widely expected to retain their seats which they did so with an increased majority. Turnout for the ward was high with 46.6% of the electorate voting. The Conservatives were second even though they increased their number of votes compared to 2014. Re-elected Councillor Andrew Steed said on the ChiswickW4.com forum, “We are grateful to Southfield residents for re-electing us. We had one of the higher turnouts in Ealing, which was helped by the activity of our Conservative opponents-so fair game to Vanessa, Julian and Andrew.” In Ealing borough as a whole there was disappointment for the Liberal Democrats as they failed to increase their number of seats even in Ealing Common ward where they were hoping to add to the one councillor they had there. Labour managed to increase the number of seats they hold to 57 taking four from the Conservatives who now have just 8 councillors with the Lib Dems on 4. The count for the Chiswick wards in Hounslow is due to start soon with the results expected mid-afternoon.
