Hounslow and District History Society’s Annual General Meeting 2013 on 30 April 2013 at 8pm in the United Reformed Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hounslow, will be followed by an illustrated talk given by its Founder Member and Vice-President, well-known local historian Andrea Cameron and entitled “The History of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers.”

Andrea is a Liveryman and Honorary Librarian of the Company, which started as a trade guild in 1403, serving parchment makers, writers and illuminators. A Charter from Queen Mary in 1557 elevated the guild to a livery company. Their Livery Hall in Ave Maria Lane was built in 1674 to replace the previous building which went up in flames along with Saint Paul’s Cathedral in the Great Fire of 1666.

Andrea will explain how one becomes a Liveryman and how Liverymen each year elect the Lord Mayor of the City of London.

Non-Members are welcome to attend at £1.50 including a free cup of tea or coffee with a biscuit.
