Hogarth’s House which was closed to the public on 5 March, will not reopen this week as planned, as there are still works going on which are part of the Mulberry Garden Project. No date for reopening has yet been announced.

Hounslow Council said, "Due to unforeseen works, Hogarth’s House will be temporarily closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will update you all once the House is opened again."

The contractors are bringing in services for the new Learning Studio from the road, then installing new York stone paving in front of the House, so it is not possible to reach the front door safely.

The £2.3million Heritage Lottery Funded Mulberry Garden project, includes the construction of a new learning studio adjoining the Grade 1 listed House, the conservation and repair of the historic garden wall and the creation of an ‘exhibition garden’, whose design and planting present the story of the site.

The aim is to provide an appropriate setting for the historic building, to expand the range of events, activities, learning and volunteering opportunities for a wider audience, and to help manage the greatly increased numbers of visitors on site, while improving their experience. The works will also ensure the future sustainability of the site with new facilities that are fit for purpose, flexible and used to their full potential for everything from learning to events and functions.

The project partnership (the Trust and the Hogarth’s House Trust/Hounslow Council working together) has apologised for any inconvenience this necessary closure may cause to anyone planning on visiting Hogarth’s House.
