School says it can no longer allow it to operate in its grounds
The food market which operates in the grounds of Belmont School has been told it is no longer welcome. The High Road Market, which operates on a Saturday morning, is literally being 'expelled' by the school, which claims in a statement that the market is in arrears paying its rent. The market launched in April as the latest addition to west London's artisan food scene, and showcased a variety of goods from craft beers to fish and meats, cheeses, cakes, and baked goods. It had been planning free tastings of craft beers at the next market on December 3rd. A statement from the School Governers said, "Belmont Primary School regrets that we are no longer able to offer our playground as a site for the 'School Market'. "We have made every effort to work with the organisers and to be supportive of their attempt to establish the market on our site, but sadly they are heavily in arrears with rent. "We have no alternative but to bring our arrangement with the organisers to an end. We understand the value to the community of the Market but our primary responsibility is to the children of Belmont and we cannot allow our resources to be diverted away from this." We have asked the organisers of the Market for comment and will report back.
