Agent says they are a sought after commodity
The rise in house prices in Chiswick extends even to garages, as this latest one to come on the market shows. Andrew Nunn has advertised a garage at Bedford Park Mansions, The Orchard, with a guide price of £45,000.
Eighteen months ago, a similar garage went for £33,000.
"It's rare for these garages to come up for sale. They are a very sought after commodity" said Andrew Nunn.
The garage has double doors, lighting, new roof and internal measurements of 17'10 x 7'7. Held on a 99 year lease from 29th September 1968 with a ground rent of £5pa and service charge of £7.50pa.
However it is unlikely to be a repeat of the experience in south London recently when a ramshackle brick-built garage next door to an industrial estate became the most expensive ever sold in Britain, reaching an auction price of £550,000 in a bidding war.
The 568 sq foot former coach house went for triple the guide price, and more than an average local house in nearby Camberwell. The previous record was for a double garage in the shadow of Harrods which went for £25,000 less.
However Andrew Nunn says it is unlikely that this garage can be converted into a residence as it is part of the mansion block.
"It is rare for a garage to come up in this locality. It is a very good road in Bedford Park and will undoubtedly be popular," he commented.
