The Hogarth Roundabout offers the first sight of garden greenery for travellers heading towards London from Heathrow, the M4 and the west. The Old Chiswick Protection Society (OCPS) along with other residents and travellers, feel that it is far from being the welcoming gateway our capital city deserves.

The illegal scourge of advertising fly-posters on traffic lights, the build up of uncleared rubbish, the lack of adequate cleansing and maintenance, the green triangle on the east side once a flower meadow which drew favourable comment from Prince Charles and now a totally untended wasteland – all these contribute to this sorry state.

For many months the OCPS has been pressing Transport for London (TfL) particularly in regard to the removal of the fly-posters and the adoption of a zero tolerance policy. After frustratingly unfulfilled promises of action, TfL finally consented to the Society dealing with the offending posters themselves. Last Sunday their team removed and dumped over 100 of these including many left uncaringly discarded on the ground for months - rubbish which should have been cleared long ago by the authorities responsible.

The Society tells us that further attempts to repeat any fly-posting will be dealt with in the same way unless TfL take up their responsibility for what is now a far less onerous task.
