Free flicks as Floating Cinema docks at Brentford Lock
Sail away without moving an inch as the Floating Cinema moors its anchor at Brentford Lock from Thursday 4 to Saturday 6 June with free flicks.
This year’s Looping the Locks series of events sees the Floating Cinema start its journey across the waterways of south east and west of England from Brentford to Bristol – and back again when it returns in August.
The Floating Cinema is sponsored by Hounslow Council. All events are free but must be booked in advance. Visit www.floatingcinema.info/events to secure your place.
Here’s what you can enjoy across three fantastic days:
Thursday 4 June, 2-7pm: Sounds of the Suburbs workshop
The Floating Cinema’s artist-in-residence, Yann Seznec, challenges you to record the sounds of your suburb. Jump on-board and visit Yann’s recording station. The sounds will be complied, and performed when the boat returns to Brentford in August. Just drop in to take part. No experience is necessary and all ages are welcome.
Friday 5 June, 8pm til late, Fanfare: The Floating Cinema on Tour Launch!
Official launch of The Floating Cinema On Tour programme with live music, refreshments and open air film.
Saturday 6 June, 12-7pm: Before the M4
An afternoon of on-board screenings exploring the changing landscape of Brentford through archive film. FREE, booking essential.
Saturday 2 August, 8-10pm: Brentford – Return Journey
The tour returns to Brentford after its tour of England’s waterways. Marvel at the changing landscapes, people and history through an evening of film and sound installation.
Councillor Steve Curran, leader of Hounslow Council said: “It’s great to see the Floating Cinema return to our shores for what has become a popular annual event and a real chance to discover the beauty of our waterways from the comfort of a boat.”
The Floating Cinema is working with Team London to encourage people support their event by volunteering. If you’d like to help out at this year’s event, no matter what your age or ability, email info@upprojects.com to get involved.
