Gogol’s classic satire at The Tabard Theatre
The Tabard Theatre is proud to present The Government Inspector, Gogol’s classic satire and using the adaptation by award winning poet Adrian Mitchell. There is a town. A town where vice and corruption are rife. where the rich get richer and the poor get flogged, and where justice is as cheap as puppies. Isolated from modern society, unburdened by morality and forgotten by the rest of the world…Until now! There is an Inspector coming. A Government Inspector, with secret orders. And he’s travelling incognito! Premiered at the National Theatre in 1985, Adrian Mitchell's adaptation remains as timeless and relevant as ever. The Government Inspector is a dark and hilarious high paced romp, holding a mirror up to society and creating a fantastical world of grotesque caricatures and farcical situations. The Government Inspector is directed by Owen Roberts whose previous directing credits include Nude at the Pleasance Courtyard in Edinburgh 2008. Other work includes Frieze Dried at The New End Theatre Hampstead as part of the 24 Se7en Festival. The play features an ensemble cast of 16 including Daniel Curtis (Gavin and Stacey, The Bill, Caerdydd and Silent Witness) and Jane Murphy (Doctors).
