Pianist Fiachra Garvey to perform followed by afternoon tea

St Nicholas Church is relaunching its series of fund-raising concerts with a Sunday afternoon tea concert by award-winning Irish pianist Fiachra Garvey, who last performed at the church in 2019.
At the concert, to be held on 27 June at 3pm, Garvey will play a programme of popular classics, including Bach’s “Sheep May Safely Graze,” 3 Nocturnes by Rachmaninov, Chopin’s Polonaise, Op. 44, and “Rhapsody in Blue,” by George Gershwin.
His appearance is an opportunity to catch a musician whose performances as a soloist include concerts at Wigmore Hall, St Martin in the Fields, and Dublin’s National Concert Hall. He has played concertos with orchestras including the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra.
Tea will be served after the concert: Each ticket includes a tea box filled with sandwiches and cakes, and St Nicholas invites concertgoers to enjoy the refreshments on the church grounds.
All proceeds from the sale of tickets will fund critical repairs of St Nicholas’ stonework. Currently the church needs to raise a final £50,000 to achieve the £190,000 total cost of works to restore the degraded fabric of the Grade II* listed church. The main body of the ancient church was rebuilt in 1884, although its tower, the oldest structure in Chiswick, dates back to 1425. Along with its churchyard—the burial place of many notable figures, including the artists William Hogarth and James Abbott McNeill Whistler—St Nicholas is a vital historical institution in the area whose future relies on the support of the Chiswick community.
