The next production from the St Michael’s Players is William Shakespeare’s 'Romeo and Juliet'

It will be performed at St Michael’s Centre, Chiswick from 5-8 July at 7.45pm with tickets from £10 are now available to purchase from stmichaelsplayers.org.

The year is 1962. The charm of post-war Britain’s economic boom has begun to wear off, but we are not yet besotted with the idea of free love. Waists remain pinched; women strain under the glass floorboards; and the world remains at war, nowhere more so than on our front door steps, where the Montagues and Capulets, who had set aside their ancient grudges and valiantly served side-by-side in the British battalions, are once again at each other’s throats, for injuries so old and long-held, their origins are lost. Sometimes it is easier to hate than to understand.

But out of cankered anger comes the bloom of love, and in the most unexpected of places: a chance meeting between the eldest amongst the families, former stage star Juliet Capulet and decorated WWII veteran, Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Montague, ignites a passionate light with which even the brightest comet could not compete.

What happens to our lovers, how they bend and burn for one another, and how their actions affect the younger generations, is the arc the player will explore in this explosive, tragic tale, set in a retirement community in which personal affronts and barbed hurts have had far too long to fester.

It is being staged at St. Michael’s Centre, Elmwood Road, (W4 3DY).

St. Michael's Players is one of the longest established drama groups in London. It has been staging plays in West London since 1949. In a good year it will present two full length performances in the Spring and the Autumn, a one-act play in the Summer and its famous panto at Christmas.
