A Midsummer Night’s Dream in St. Paul’s Church gardens in Grove Park
Since 1949 the St Michael’s Players have been a fixture in the local Chiswick arts scene – producing a regular programme of theatrical productions. This year, to celebrate its 65th anniversary, the group are venturing out of their normal base at the St Michael’s Centre in Elmwood Road to stage a Woodstock-inspired, open-air production of Shakespeare’s comedy of love ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Georgina Parren as Titania Every evening, between 1-4 July, the garden at St Paul’s Church, Chiswick, will be transformed into a festival of fun, music and magic that takes us back to the heady, hippy hazy days of the 1960’s. The group promises that this will be the most lavish and ambitious production in the Player’s history and the festival atmosphere will be enhanced with a live band, barbeque and beer tent. This magical and often hilarious tale of star-crossed lovers and mischievous spirits, tiffs, trickery and down-to-earth humour, will appeal to all the family. They urge you to grab some cushions and rug, and those tie-dyed t-shirts, and look forward to an evening of theatre under the stars. Watch whilst the Players weave their magic before your eyes and transform this beautiful garden into a wonderful, technicoloured parallel universe; where nothing is quite as it seems. Georgina Parren as Titania and Alastair Dewar as Bottom Seating is all open-air, on the grass, and on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be some, limited traditional seating which can be reserved - see the website for details. Tickets are on sale now via the St Michaels’ web site. The event is supported by local estate agent Whitman and Co.
