Speakers Corner Quartet and Monika Lidke Band | |
Innovative combo and enchanting singer-songwriter at George IV
Bolygomusic Productions present SPEAKERS CORNER QUARTET and MONIKA LIDKE BAND. This innovative London-based combo gained great notoriety after a series of packed out performances at the monthly cult hip-hop night "Speakers Corner" in Brixton, laying down the grooves for the guest MCs and poets. They have backed UK hip-hop geezer Blak Twang for live shows, opened for Herbie Hancock at the Royal Festival Hall, played Sunrise at the Big Chill Festival 2008 and worked with artists such as Soweto Kinch and Immortal Technique. Arguably their musical output, could be described as the missing link between J Dilla, Stravinsky and John Coltrane. Their debut EP, "Further Back From The Beginning" blends their unique sound of deep jazz and hip-hop with heavy classical and eastern sounds. Championed by BBC Radio 1's Gilles Peterson and with a captivated audience when they recently performed at the Tate Britain as part of the Afrodizzia night which accompanied the Chris Ofili exhibition, they are set for very big things.
