There are 77 classes and anyone can enter
On Sunday, 28 August the annual Chiswick Horticultural and Allotments Society (CHAS) Autumn Show will be held at its Trading Centre on Staveley Road and is open for entries at 9.30am-11.45am. Whether you grow on your allotment plot, in the backyard, on the windowsill or on your balcony, the Show is a chance to exhibit your efforts and for the public to appreciate them. You don’t have to be a member of the Society to enter. Judging is from noon until 2pm when the show reopens to the public and prizes are presented at 3.45pm. Admission is free and it’s 25p per class entry. There are 77 classes to enter, flowers, fruit, vegetables, culinary, photography, poetry, classes for children and novices. There are lots of cups and prizes to be awarded and anyone can enter as many categories as they wish. Master of ceremonies and CHAS president, Paul Lynch, will guide Mayor of Hounslow, Raghwinder Siddu, through the prize presentation, which as well as cups, includes a £50 Snappy Snaps voucher for best photo in show and a £50 Wheelers voucher for highest points in classes 17-20. If that’s not enough to tempt you to exhibit or visit then there’s Jenny and her team’s delicious home-made cakes, Skye and Jane’s refreshments and, if the BBQ ban lifts, Jim and Joanna’s magic marinade BBQ. The afternoon ends with an auction of produce, all in all, a great way to play your part in the community of gardeners and plant lovers. For further information about the classes, rules and entry forms either email shows@growchiswick.org or visit this page. CHAS is a charity originally founded in 1915 as the Chiswick Allotment Holders Association, whose objectives are the promotion and encouragement of the art, science and practice of horticulture. It is entirely run by volunteers from the committee to the Trading Centre. The Society provides its members with free advice, seeds, bulbs, fertiliser, compost and tools at a lower cost than commercial garden centres and organises shows, talks, tours and events throughout the year. Membership of the Society is open to everyone, whether or not they have an allotment, garden or window box and costs just £8 per year. CHAS holds two Shows a year where novices or seasoned gardeners young or old are encouraged to exhibit a range of produce, including their flowers, vegetables, fruit, cakes, chutneys and photos.
