In aid of the Haiti Hospital Appeal

A Charity Auction & Dinner is being held on Friday 17th July 7.30pm (cost £40 per ticket) to raise money for the Haiti Hospital Appeal (www.haitihospitalappeal.org) which is seeking to extend a government built hospital in the north of the country which serves a population of 900 000 but which to date does not have any maternity or paediatric care facility.

The infant mortality rate for children under the age of 5 is 20% and the life expectancy across the whole country is 51 years for men and 52 for women. Haiti is by far the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

The money raised will build maternity, labour and paediatric care wards in the hospital. Local people are being employed as contractors and the administrative overheads for the charity are kept at a minimum to ensure maximum benefit to the local people.
