Chiswick Pier Trust (CPT) hosting talk on the Marine Policing Unit
February 11, 2023 PC Simon Butterfield is to give a live talk on the history of the Marine Policing Unit at 7pm on Tuesday 28 February at The Pier House, Corney Reach Way (W4 2UG). His presentation promises to shed light on the role, specialist equipment and skills of London’s oldest police force and will be of interest to river users everywhere. The Unit’s officers are trained to manage incidents in underwater and confined spaces as well as counter-demonstration operations at height. With 22 vessels and just 24 officers you’ve most likely caught a glimpse of the team, in a similar boat to the one pictured, among the flotilla accompanying the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race. The Marine Policing Unit will be policing this year’s University Boat Race, 4pm on 26 March. Doors open 6.30pm and refreshments will be on sale before the talk, which will last approximately one hour. Admission to the talk is free for members of CPT and £5 for non-members. Limited tickets will be available on the day so it is advised to pre-book. For details of this and future ‘Talks by the Thames’ or for information on CPT membership check the Chiswick Pier Trust's web site. The trust works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and support major river events, as well as organising events of its own.
