Season of events continues with a River History Cruise
Sunday May 18th 6.00pm embarkation - River history cruise with Dr Andy Duncan. London is here because of the Thames; its banks are brimming with tales of the past. Enjoy an informative cruise from Chiswick Pier to the City and back with well known local historian, Dr Andy Duncan. The Trust is also offering, in partnership with Pissarro’s, a three-course pre-cruise meal at 4pm. Cruise & meal costs £25; cruise alone costs £15 (£12 concessions). Boat returns by around 10pm. Payment with booking is essential. Saturday June 7th 12 noon - Summer Magic photo competition and exhibition. For this event, the Trust is inviting photos that capture the summer mood of the river and riverside around Chiswick Pier. Entries from all ages are welcome. Snappy Snaps Chiswick are offering discounts on printing and are providing the prizes; there’ll be expert photographers to help with the judging and everyone is invited to the prize-giving and photo exhibition on June 7th. Find full entry information on their notice board and web site. Sunday July 20th From 11am - Party on the Pier Annual knees-up starts at 11am with river dipping on the foreshore at Chiswick Eyot. Then back at the Pier, there’s a canoeing taster session and from midday onwards, there are “round the bay” boat trips, stalls, barbecue, Fullers’ bar, refreshments, tombola and lots of children’s activities, all accompanied by that ever popular band, Shenanigans. Thursday August 21st 10am - Art on the Pier Roehampton Art Club will be on the Pier this summer, following a long tradition of painting and sketching the Thames. They will welcome any local art enthusiasts to join them, though you must supply your own materials. Chiswick Pier will just provide a warm welcome, free chairs and loo facilities! There’ll be a lunch break followed by more art for those who are interested. Booking essential. Saturday September 13th 1pm - Great River Race and Great River Swim. Watch the biggest and most prestigious traditional boat race in Europe. Relax with Fullers’ beer, refreshments, barbecued food and a live band, whilst cheering on your favourites. Doors open at 1pm and the first boats are expected around 3pm.
