The landlord has decided to remarket the property
Evans Cycles shop has said it has no current plans to leave the Chiswick High Road , despite the For Sale sign outside its Chiswick branch. There had been a number of reports on social media the shop would be closing in three months. But the shop tweeted at the weekend, "Evans Cycles has no current plans to leave the Chiswick High Road location. However the landlord has, totally within their rights, decided to remarket the property." In October 2018, Evans Cycles entered administration, and was purchased by Sports Direct in a pre-pack administration for £8 million.A turnaround plan was revealed to shut half of the 62 stores. . Branches in Brentford, Fulham, Holborn were earmarked as the first to close amid plans to shutaround 30 stores. Evans Cycles was opened by a London cyclist, Frederick Evans, who won an award from Britain's largest cycling club for the best cycling invention of 1925. Evans opened a shop in Kennington Road in south east London, known as F.W. Evans Cycles. The business changed hands in the 1950s and developed franchised stores in the 1990s as well as launching a mail order catalogue.
