Chiswick has been covered in a carpet of snow after a heavy fall last night.
The first snow of the year began in the evening and continued through the night as temperatures dropped below freezing. Some further flurries may occur but, no major falls of snow are now predicted so it might be an idea to make the most of what has landed so far. For Tuesday night, freezing fog is expected.
It is the first significant fall of snow in Chiswick since January 2021 during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The snow has caused widespread disruption across London on roads and rail with overnight freezing causing ice on tracks.
South Western Railway, Southern and London Overground are experiencing major disruption with Network Rail using snow ploughs to allow trains to run. Track faults are causing severe delays on the District, Circle and Hammersmith and City lines. On the Piccadilly line there is no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.
The Met Office has issued a Yellow Warning for ice which runs until 11am tomorrow morning with lying snow and icy patches expected to cause difficult travel conditions during Monday and into Tuesday.

The odds on a White Christmas have shortened but the bookies still believe it is unlikely with William Hill currently offering 6-1 that snow will fall on London City Airport on Christmas Day.
