Fears have been raised that Council tax in Ealing could go up next year.

At the final full Council meeting of the year (April 15) before the local elections, the ruling Labour group refused to support a Conservative motion which would have guaranteed a tax freeze for another four years.

Commenting after the meeting Conservative Cllr Mark Reen - Shadow Finance spokesman said:

"Yet again the Labour administration have ducked the opportunity to rule out Council Tax increases for residents after the next election.

''The Conservative pledge to Ealing is for a four year freeze – a freeze that has been costed by the Councils own finance officers.

''A Labour Council that has built up over the last 4 years £100M in reserves and a Council that can spend £7M every year on management consultants can and should be offering residents financial security for the next 4 years."

We have asked for Labour comment.
