Dukes Meadows Club Gets Approval For Tennis Hall To Provide Year-Round Play

Permanent structure will replace the 'Dome' which has been used for several years

Dukes Meadows Golf and Tennis Club has been granted permission to build a tennis hall to replace the tennis 'Dome' structure which has been used as a year-round covered area for tennis for some years.

It comes after several years of the club attempting to get permission for a permanent structure at the Dan Mason Drive centre.

The club had last applied for permission for a permanent tennis hall in January of 2018 and the application has now been granted, subject to certain conditions. The hours of operation will be Monday - Sunday 07:00 - 22:00.

There are nine pay and play tennis courts in operation on the site of the club in Dan Mason Drive. As tennis has become a more high profile sport, the Dukes Meadows club set up a facility to provide coaching but wanted the sport to be available for play all year round, instead of just in summer. A dome was erected in 2008 to cover five of the available courts so that play could continue despite weather conditions.

The dome required planning permission and various planning applications were submitted in relation to this use (temporary and permanent), The winter dome proved very successful, providing tennis to the community at a time when it would not normally be available.

Options continued to be pursued for a permanent replacement structure for year-round use and this has now been granted.

The club says that the new structure will result in a significant reduction in energy use, reduce the structure’s visibility in public views from the wider area, and further reduce or remove the potential for light pollution during hours of darkness.

Dukes Meadows Golf and Tennis Club is a 'pay and play' facility. As well as the nine hole golf course and tennis courts there is a ski centre offer in door simulated skiing and snowboarding.
