Local residents group funds life saving device, now located at primary school
A life saving defibrillator has been donated by the Strand on the Green Residents' Association (SoGA) and installed at a local primary school. The unit is now located at Strand on the Green Primary School, but is also for use by the community. The defibrillator cost over £800, some of which was paid for by a donation made by the executor of the estate of long time Strand on the Green resident Dylis Pinion. The school also contributed by paying for the cost of
the unit to be installed. It is believed other local groups are considering funding the life saving units in other areas. A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. This high energy shock is called defibrillation, and it's an essential part in trying to save the life of someone who’s in cardiac arrest. The British Heart Foundation says that fewer than 1 in 10 people in the UK survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. This has been partly attributed to two factors that communities can change: -there aren’t
enough people prepared to perform CPR when someone has a cardiac arrest "By having a defibrillator in your community and by training people in CPR, you can play an important part in saving more lives." June 10, 2019
