Plans approved for work to the rear of the house owned by former Doctor Who actor
Hounslow Council planning department has approved the plans for actor David Tennant to extend his family home in Chiswick. According to the Daily Mail, the Doctor Who and Broadchurch star has been given permission for a two-storey rear extension as well as other enlargements including making the basement bigger and a roof terrace. The news comes as the actor was made a real 'Doctor' and given an honorary degree-Doctor of Drama-by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - he studied there between 1988 and 1991. The house in Gunnersbury had been the subject of a planning row between the actor, the local West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society, and Hounslow Council planners. The first attempt, to build another storey onto the two-storey house, was turned down by Hounslow Council's Planning Committee last December, following objections from a local resident's group which said that it would not be in keeping with the local conservation area and Victorian style houses. The actor and his wife then sought permission for the erection of a two-storey rear extension at first-floor level and a single-storey rear extension either side, and a rear roof extension. They also sought enlargement of the existing basement. The changes to the house were necessary, because of their growing family, they said. Recently the West Chiswick & Gunnersbury Society chairman Marie Rabouhans had confirmed that the society would not be opposing the application. This time the work is to the rear of the house instead of the front and does not involve putting on an extra floor and raising the height of the building. The former Dr Who and Broadchurch star had previously said that he and his wife might have to sell up and leave the area if they were unable to extend their home. July 6, 2016
