Linden Gardens and Duke Road to be closed at junctions with High Road
The stricken pole which carried the Devonshire Road sign
December 18, 2022
Work on Cycleway 9 is to resume in the New Year with a redesign of the junctions at Linden Gardens and Duke Road taking place.
This is part of Phase 3b of the project which Transport for London (TfL) is currently consulting on. The designs will be similar to those already implemented at Devonshire Road, Brackley Road and Cranbrook Road with new entry treatments and raised tables for the crossing points.
The banning of the right turn exit for motor vehicles on Duke Road will be made permanent.
It will require the closure of Linden Gardens and Duke Road at their junctions with Chiswick High Road from Tuesday 3 January 2023. The work is due to be completed by Friday 27 January and Tuesday 24 January respectively.
No notification has been given of any lane or road closures on Chiswick High Road but, as with previous phases, the cycleway will need to be shut at this section.
There have been significant issues with the cycleway being blocked by vehicles crossing onto the High Road, particularly when local roads are congested, and it is hoped that the new designs will mitigate this problem as well as making the junctions safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The relocation of the zebra crossing by Linden Gardens is also due to take place as part of Phase 3b but it is not clear from the information released by TfL and Hounslow Council whether this will be carried out at the same time as the junction changes.
Once this work is completed, it is understood that resurfacing work will take place on Chiswick High Road by the junction with Heathfield Terrace.
The ongoing consultation by Hounslow Council into this latest phase of the Cycleway along Chiswick High Road continues.
