Comment on this story on the

Vaccination time

On Wednesday last I received the Pfizer vaccination at the Chiswick Health Centre. The vaccinator was a charming Doctor from Isleworth supported by a nurse from the Grove Park Surgery. All the staff present were working under pressure to ensure the process was done diligently. The mandatory 15 minute wait post application delayed the process but time passed quickly.

I’m advised that over 1000 vaccinations have already been given - a credible number.

Chiswick Area Forum

This starts at 7pm January on Tuesday 12 January 2021 and it’s a webinar event.

Those attending to give presentations include Police Sergeant Rich Reagan, Xanthe Arvanitakis Director, Chiswick House and Gardens Trust, Laura Ellener Head Teacher Chiswick School and Kelly O’Neill Hounslow’s Director of Public Health.

Conservation Areas Appraisals Chiswick

The Agenda papers includes a briefing note regarding Conservation Areas Appraisals in Chiswick.

The following is an extract:

The Spatial Planning Team have started a programme of producing new conservation area appraisals (CAAs) for all of Hounslow’s conservation areas, which will build on the previous statements for our conservation areas.

We are consulting on a new appraisal for Chiswick High Road, bringing this up to date and into the same format of the rest of our appraisals, along with a small proposed extension to include the new Chiswick Timeline.

We are also consulting on the possibility of designating the Glebe Estate as a new conservation area. This is part of the wider program of updating our conservation area appraisals and reviewing requests for additional conservation areas. The draft appraisal sets out the case for special interest and history of the area.

Consultation will take place from January 18th 2021 – March 20th 2021, we will be sending a letter to all residents within the conservation areas above to inform them of the consultation and invite their comments. The consultation process will enable residents, businesses, key stakeholders, and those with an interest in the CAAs and the historic environment in

Hounslow to comment on the draft CAAs. From the 18 th of January, the consultation will be available on the council’s consultation page.

If anyone does not have access to the internet and requires a paper copies of the documents and response form, these are available. Please call the conservation team at 020 8583 5207 to request one.

Following the consultation, we will review responses and amend the documents as appropriate, as well as considering if the Glebe Estate should be designated as a conservation area. If adopted, the conservation area appraisals will be a material consideration to the determination of planning applications and Secretary of State decisions in the respective conservation areas. Should anyone want more information on the consultation or have any queries please contact conservation@hounslow.gov.uk .

Pollarding on Chiswick Eyot

In December 2020 I paid a visit to the hardworking volunteers collecting the pollarded willow withies branches on the Eyot.

Here’s a picture of Therese Bennett which graphically shows the extent of the collection process.

Once collected they are used to prevent further natural erosion of the eyot and the Chinese Mitten Crab.

Others helping in this process included Chris Rake and Hillary and Niall Leslie.

Here’s an example of their sterling work.
