The closure of the ticket office at Gunnersbury station, which was due to take place in April, has been postponed 'at least until December'.

The move comes after London Travel Watch agreed to lift its objections to the proposals after London Underground (LUL) offered to delay the closures until new and improved ticket machines are installed and working. According to the RMT Union which lobbied against the proposals this means that the closure of Gunnersbury will take place no earlier than December.

LUL was proposing to close all the ticket offices at the eleven stations it shared with the former Silverlink service which has since been taken over by London Overground. These include Kew Gardens as well as Gunnersbury.

It was agreed with London Travel Watch that three of the busiest stations would remain open for at least two more months to allow for analysis of ticket sales at these stations. The Board will then reconsider its position as appropriate

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said, “The results of London Travel Watch’s review throw TfL’s entire ticket office closure programme into question – that ticket office closure programme should be reviewed and reversed. This important development will spur on RMT’s continuing campaign against ticket office closures."
