Picture: Rim Turkmani The inquest at the West London Coroner's Court into the death of a man who was killed after being hit by a Piccadilly line train at Turnham Green underground station has concluded. 41-year-old Shivahar Sirikananathan of Great West Road, Isleworth, jumped in front of the train on 16 November 2021 allowing the driver no time to stop. Despite the efforts of paramedics he was pronounced dead at the scene. His family told the court that they were unaware of any reasons for him to have taking this action. He was described as a keen cricketer who played for a club in the area. Born in Sri Lanka he had worked at Kingston Upon Thames Council as an accountant and in an IT support role. In a statement submitted to the court, Mr Sirikananathan parents said, "He was good natured and helpful, yet a little reserved as a young man. The tragic accident was a shock to us and our daughter. We had fairly regular contact with him. There were no financial or health issues that affected him. We are not aware of any circumstances that caused him any bother. We have no idea what may have triggered him into such a tragic mishap." The Coroner Gemma Brannigan determined, based on the witness statement of the tube driver, that the death was a suicide.
