Hounslow Council will be undertaking works to street trees on Chiswick High Road week commencing 28th February.

The street trees are predominantly London Planes and, as per the current tree strategy, forest trees such as 'Limes' and 'Planes' are pruned on a 3 year cycle.

"We have to prioritise pruning of Plane trees during winter and before they come into leaf, due to health and safety risks arising when Plane trees are in leaf," a Council spokesman told ChiswickW4.com.

"The short, stiff hairs shed by the young leaves and dispersing seeds are an irritant if breathed in, and can exacerbate breathing difficulties. This is harmful to the operatives and we would not want to cause any risk to members of the public and residents by pruning when Plane trees are in leaf."

The Council say they have made every effort to ensure that traffic disruption is kept to a minimum whilst the tree pruning works are carried out. A traffic management programme has been drawn up and the Council has liaised with the Traffic Section, Transport for London and other relevant agencies so that these works along Chiswick High Road can be progressed satisfactorily.

"We apologise for the short notice however this was due to concerns by Transport for London due to the ongoing works by Thames Water on Twickenham Road, Isleworth. The tree pruning work along Chiswick High Road have been grouped in stages for traffic management purposes. The contractors will endeavour to complete works to four trees per day and hence will be moving from one stage to another stage in the programme. We will be unable to carry out works to all trees along Chiswick High Road and any outstanding works will be programmed in January 2012."

The team will be undertaking some work on Sundays in the area from the junction Chiswick Roundabout to Power Road (though not all trees may be completed).

The Council also have to undertake works on two Sundays to three trees outside 259-271 Chiswick High Road and these trees will be pollarded heavily due to the recent gas works in the area. There may be problems with noise on these two Sundays whilst carrying out works in this particular area, however they are important works and the trees need to be managed in this way.
