Perhaps not surprisingly the most read story of 2012 was the revelation of development plans for Sainsbury's site. Stories on this theme are likely to feature prominently in 2013.

Although celebrity stories were popular with Jamie Oliver, Clare Balding and Colin Firth related items appearing on the list, including one spoof, the top spots were taken by local interest stories such as an item on Anne Naysmith and a report about another death at Turnham Green station.

Other stories that didn't quite make this list concerned Trenton Oldfield's Boat Race stunt, Pete Reed's golden post box and the Chiswick School boy hit by a lorry's wing mirror. He is now well on the way to a full recovery and back at school.

The only property story that appeared in the top ten was one about prices falling even though, generally the reports during the year were about rising prices.
