Celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, 92 year old Robin Thyers and his 91 year old wife Rosalie their long and happy marriage is due to “God being kind to us.”

Both born and bred in Chiswick, they met as teenagers through a local cycling group. The childhood sweethearts married in St Nicholas, Chiswick’s Parish Church on July 2nd 1938.

Although they separated during WWII, Robin used the experience he gained during the war years as a dispatch rider to break a world record.

As a member of the 32 man strong veteran White Helmets, a motorcycle display group with an average age of 81, he was part of the oldest display team on record in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Mr Thyers said, "We have been lucky to survive the war, particularly the London bombings. God has been kind to us."
