Budding artists have taken up the challenge to design this year's official Christmas card for Chiswick House and Gardens Trust.

Twenty-two GCSE Art and Design students from Chiswick Community School took part in a special project and competition to produce the Trust's official festive card, which will be sent to their supporters and all the benefactors who have assisted in the restoration of the gardens.

Julie Herd, Chiswick Community School Head of Art , said, "I am particularly pleased with the range of skills and techniques that the pupils have used. The House and Gardens are a great resource and a great link for the school. It has been incredibly exciting for the year 11’s to be involved with Barry Martin and Lord Burlington."

The card's theme is Christmas and Chiswick House and Gardens and acclaimed artist Barry Martin whose studio is based in the gardens supported the project in school and at the House. The winning designs were selected by a panel lead by Lord Burlington who is an accomplished photographer and Trustee of Chiswick House and Gardens.

Sarah Finch-Crisp, Director of the Trust said “We are delighted to be commissioning Christmas cards from students at Chiswick Community School. The Trust is currently developing an exciting Education Service and I hope this will be the first of many projects we undertake with the school. Chiswick House and Gardens is a wonderful resource and the students have put fresh ideas, skill and thoughtfulness into their interpretative art work. “

The five selected designs were by Beth Archibald, Ellie Elkes-Hermannsen, Nichola Read, Basil Martin and Kate Andrews.

Education and Outreach Officer at Chiswick House and Gardens, Simrit Mann said “The children have a produced a fantastic portfolio of their work and these and their designs will form part of an exhibition at Chiswick House in April 2010”.

The finished cards will also be on sale through Chiswick Community School and the Chiswick House and Gardens Education Office. Please contact 020 8742 3508 for further details.
