Cavendish Primary Celebrates Retaining 'Good' Rating | |
OFSTED inspector recognises efforts of school's new leadership team Ms Frewer with the Cavendish Reading Ambassadors January 5, 2023 Cavendish Primary School has achieved a “good” rating following a recent visit by an Ofsted inspector. This maintains the level achieved since inspections of this kind began. The inspector, who visited last November, recognised the efforts of a new leadership team to revitalise the school. The inspection took place seven months after Ms Frewer joined the school and two months after the arrival of new deputy headteacher Donna Kay. Ofsted noted that pupils felt happy and safe at the school, and hailed the “calm, positive attitude to learning” as well as the kindness of staff and teachers. The inspector said school leaders set high expectations and had an ambitious agenda for education and continued improvement. Headteacher Clare Frewer, who took the post in April 2022 having been deputy head at Belmont, praised the efforts of all the school’s staff. “I am immensely proud of all that we have achieved in this very short period of time” she said. “We have a very exciting future ahead as we continue to implement strategic change to further improve our school and strive for excellence.” Last year, Cavendish celebrated its 70th anniversary. The school has aimed to foster strong relationships in the local community, including with Chiswick House, where pupils enjoy gardening and growing produce. They have also expanded the provision of extra-curricular activities with pupils appreciating the many clubs they can attend including art, skateboarding, dancing, and sports. Students have benefited from visits by local paramedics, police and midwives. Reading was a particular strength, the inspector found, with precise tuition in phonics, regular reading times, and extra support for those who were struggling. Ofsted also singled out the respect and kindness pupils showed to each other, with some year six students spending their lunchtimes helping younger children. Chair of Governors, Dr Jo Smith said, “We are delighted to have been joined at Cavendish by such a strong leadership team in Clare Frewer and Donna Kay. We are so proud of how hard staff have worked with their support and guidance to develop into a school where all children are given the opportunities and support to flourish through their Early and Primary Years.” “The children are a delight; displaying curiosity, respect, kindness and resilience each day,” said Ms Frewer.
