Chiswick School has been placed on the shortlist for the Tes Secondary School of the Year.

The category of ‘Secondary School of the Year’ in the annual Tes School Awards recognises schools that have had exceptional performance in the previous 12 months or experienced rapid improvement, and those that are maintaining continued excellence over a longer period.

The judges look for more than academic achievement when shortlisting for this category; schools need to demonstrate innovation, imagination and efforts to develop children in ways that go beyond the league tables.

The school says, “Being shortlisted for such an award is testament to all the hard work and dedication shown by our fantastic students, staff and parents.”

Nomination in the secondary school category automatically gives Chiswick School a shot at winning the overall category, the most coveted award.

Headteacher Laura Ellener added, “To have been shortlisted for Secondary School of the Year is a wonderful achievement and reflects the determination of everyone in the school. I am delighted for our staff and students who have worked so hard and been so resilient over the last 12 months. This is also great news for the Chiswick community who have, and continue to be, so supportive of us and our journey.”

Tes editor Jon Severs said, “It is more important this year than ever before to celebrate the fantastic work schools do, because in the past 12 months they have gone above and beyond to ensure pupils were able to be educated and be kept safe in extraordinary circumstances. We were inundated with entries that demonstrated just how hard the pandemic made the work of schools, and just how amazing the response from staff has been. We are looking forward to showcasing, as we do every year, just how vital our education professionals are to every facet of this country."

After an online awards ceremony last year, Tes are once again holding this year’s awards ceremony virtually. Chiswick School will find out if it has won on Friday 25 June.
