Grand Opening Of New Library At Strand On The Green Junior School |
Helping to encourage pupils to develop a lifelong interest in reading The children of Strand on the Green Junior School have had a booktastic last day of the half-term to celebrate the grand opening of their new library. The library has been relocated from a hidden corner of the top floor of the Old Building to near the main entrance in the Main Building. The school hope that the move will entice Strand families to browse before and after school and help to develop a habit of reading for pleasure that should last a lifetime. The new electronic Reading Cloud system will keep track of who is reading what, and the school will get a good idea of which current books are set to become classics of the future. Exciting times! To mark the day every child in the school lined up from the old library to the new library in a giant human chain (or giant bookworm!) to move the books from one building to the other, one by one! The day also featured Mad Hatter’s Read Parties in Years 3 and 4, and each class shared their favourite books with one another and took part in all manner of bookish activities. The refurbishment of the library came about from the fundraising efforts
of the school’s wonderfully supportive PTA, the Friends of Strand
Schools. The school also received a delivery of well over a hundred new
books from the Foyles flagship store that was only made possible due to
a wonderfully generous grant from the Foyles Foundation. The first day
of the new library was a great success, and the school are looking forward
to championing the power of books for many years to come. October 19, 2018 |
