Sainsbury’s, has launched a network of charging points for electric cars at branches across London including store Chiswick store.

The move is seen as huge boost to Mayor, Boris Johnson’s plans to make the capital the European capital of electric cars.

City Hall is planning to install further charging points at sites across London at everywhere from places of work, public car parks, supermarkets amongst others.

The aim to have all 25,000 installed by 2015 in order to accommodate up to 100,000 electric cars.

Sainsbury’s, who are the first company to install the charging points, have introduced two at nine of their stores across London. A spokesperson for the supermarket said they were pleased to be the first helping the capital become cleaner and, if the scheme proves popular, they plan to open more next year.
