Recycling Facilities Withdrawn from Sainsbury's Car Park |

Area had regularly been strewn with uncollected waste
December 19, 2022 The recycling bins at the western end of the Sainsbury’s car park have been removed. Local residents have reported arriving at the facility to deposit items such as paper and bottles only to find they could no longer do so. The supermarket store had earlier hinted that it was considering removing the service after we questioned them about the amount of rubbish piling up at the site. The number of collections appears to have been reduced and some fly tipping was occurring at the site including of building waste leading to complaints from local residents who observed rats around the unsightly mess. Sainsbury’s said it was arranging for extra collections to help keep the area clear. Demand for use of the site has risen significantly due to Ealing Council’s closure of the nearby Stirling Road recycling facility. Now for many the nearest recycling centre is the one on Townmead Road in Mortlake or Ealing Council’s remaining tip at Greenford. It is believed that the supermarket company was prompted to make the move as it would have been unable to deal with extra demand for recycling over the Christmas period.
