Chiswick Area Planning Committee this week will consider proposals to install speed bumps along Burlington Lane as part of a Safer and Healthy Routes to Chiswick Schools Traffic Scheme.

Chiswick Community College has been chosen as one of Hounslow’s projects for this year which proposes a pedestrian and cyclist friendly traffic scheme intended to encourage parents, carers and students to walk, use public transport or, dependent on age, cycle to and from school rather than travel in cars.

Council Officers met with Chiswick Community College teachers and parents to develop the traffic proposals and issues such as speeds and accidents were also investigated.

The new measures, which also include installing speed signs, a new mini roundabout at the junction of Staveley Road and Burlington Lane and a new zebra crossing on Staveley Road (close to the junction of the A316), have an estimated cost of £120,000 which would be funded by Transport for London.

A decision is expected at the 9th January meeting.
